LENGTH OF TIME THE PROJECT/PROGRAM HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE:

Goals of the Program

– Prevent working families from falling into more devastating poverty by providing counseling, financial assistance, referral services and engaging these families in the work of advocacy.

– Research – Collecting stories from the individuals and families for the purpose of presenting the reality of the impact of current economic policies on the lives of the working poor. These stories are used in meetings, letters and other presentations to legislators on the state and national levels. The goal of the stories and the advocacy is systemic change in the policies that both cause people to fall into more devastating poverty and maintain individuals and families in the culture of poverty.

Both the Daughters of Charity (Northeast Province) and the Eastern Province of the Congregation of the Mission have provided the seed money and at various times, additional funding for this program.
