Changing the systems that keep people poor means

changing a whole series of related elements rather

than just one or two isolated ones, For example, a man

with no job doesn't have money. No money means

no food for his children. Hungry children means poor

grades In school. Poor schooling means not getting a

good job, which eventually leads back to where it all

started: no money to buy food. Changing this system

requires changing altitudes at the root of the problems.

Upon arriving in Madagascar, Fr. Pedro Opeka CM

couldn't believe the misery he saw. He wondered

how he could help thousands of families that lived in

outrageous conditions on top of garbage heaps.
