Present in over 80 countries, the Daughters of Charity work in the world’s diverse societies, and through their service to the most deprived, they are involved in the process of inculturating the Gospel message in a changing world. Their ministry touches the “poorest of the poor” and all those in need through education, health care, social, and pastoral services. Their advocacy works of today focus on such issues as globalization, immigration, and ecology.

In 1633 St. Vincent de Paul, a French priest, and St. Louise de Marillac, a widow, established the Company of the Daughters of Charity as a group of women dedicated to serving the poor. Prayer and community life were essential elements of their vocation of service with a characteristic spirit of humility, simplicity and charity.
