In just one year, the savings program listed 2,000

depositors-- a number that increased after two-and-

a-half years to 5,300, representing roughly 540

savings groups in Payatas alone. Jeepney drivers,

market vendors, students, mothers saving for children, and the elderly availed of this program.

Soon, the Program offered small loans to people to

set up little businesses feasible for the Philippines.

These businesses allowed people to eventually pay

back the loan. The Program is now saving to buy the

land where the depositors live. They are gradually

being recognized by the government and are now

able to make down payments on land purchase.
