September Saints

John Gabriel Perboyre, C.M., served as a missionary in China, where he became a martyr. He was canonized in 1996 by Pope John Paul II. His feast day is September 11. Let us recall the words of St. Vincent de Paul: “If illness presents itself, and if persecution, exterior and interior trials, temptation, and even death itself present themselves to us, let’s say to them, ‘Welcome, celestial favors, graces from God, holy trials coming from a paternal and all-loving hand for my benefit; I receive you with a heart filled with respect, submission, and confidence toward the one who sends you; I abandon myself to you in order to give myself to Him.'” (Volume: 11, Letter: 143a).
