With the Lenten season almost upon us, we begin a new series on the virtue of mortification– one of the five Vincentian Virtues. Mortification is the self-discipline that stands against seeking only what pleases me in the here and now, for the sake of more important goals. In this first presentation, learn why St. Vincent insisted on the necessity of mortification. This virtue is all about making choices, and the goal for our choices. In the Vincentian context, choices are made in solidarity with and for those who live in poverty.
