Known as “El Pelé,” Blessed Ceferino gave his life to defend a priest during the Spanish Civil War. He was arrested for standing in defense of the priest and for carrying a rosary in his pocket. He was offered freedom if he stopped praying the rosary. He refused.

He was an active member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
