The Early Vincentian Parish Missions
For the sake of the country poor, St. Vincent de Paul founded the Congregation of the Mission to preach and educate the people. They met with clergy at each parish to find out and address their urgent needs, then finished by making provisions for the ongoing care of the parish’s poorest, usually with the establishment of Confraternities of Charity. Congregation of the Mission: Finding God in the Poor
On January 25 we celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Mission. Since 1625, Saint Vincent’s community of priests and brothers have worked to spread God’s message of hope to the poor and train priests and laity to serve and advocate for those living in poverty.
